In addition to cruiser sailing, there is an active Dinghy Fleet with handicap racing at Sunderland Yacht Club.
Most Sundays and Wednesday evenings throughout the summer season racing and dinghy coaching is organised.
We have direct access to the gently sloping Roker beach via our exclusive use ramp.
All Dinghy types are welcome at Sunderland ranging from foiling Moths to Optimists.
For as little as £119 an adult can bring their own boat and sail their first year at SYC. For Juniors it is only £60.
Please visit our Membership Page for details of membership costs.
Racing takes place either in Seaburn Bay, or within the sheltered Sunderland Harbour depending on the weather conditions.

Sunderland is an ideal location for those wishing to sail on the sea as we have sheltered launching, a gently sloping beach, moderate tides and only light commercial traffic.
The Club has a large grassed area adjacent to the beach that can be used for rigging boats and generally relaxing between races.
We have a large paved compound for boat storage with tie down and wash-down facilities. The compound is sheltered from strong winds in most directions.
The club has several training boats which may be available for members to practice.
